Rana new-look pasta

Rana’s 250g fresh pasta packs are £3-£4 in supermarkets

Rana has overhauled its fresh filled pasta range – but the new recipes contain a lower proportion of meat and fewer authentic Italian ingredients.

Braised Beef & Red Wine Ravioli 250g has been replaced with Slow Cooked Braised Beef & Red Wine Girasoli 250g.

The braised beef filling used to contain 99% beef and now contains 65% beef, while parmigiano reggiano PDO has been removed from the recipe.

Meanwhile, Prawn, Burrata & Lemon Zest Girasoli 250g has been replaced with Garlic Prawn & Chilli Girasoli 250g.

The old recipe contained 22% prawn, 10% burrata, mozzarella and limone di sorrento PGI zest (0.3%). The new recipe contains 20% prawns with no burrata or mozzarella and regular lemon zest.

Mushroom & Mascarpone Tortelloni 250g used to contain 43% grilled champignon mushrooms and 4.5% porcini mushrooms. The new iteration is 32% grilled champignon mushrooms with no porcini mushrooms.

Despite the recipe changes, prices have stuck at £3-£4 for a 250g pack across the traditional big four supermarkets [Assosia 12 w/e 24 October 2025].

When approached by The Grocer, a Rana spokeswoman insisted that the new fresh filled pasta range was “entirely new”, featuring “original recipes… developed from scratch”.

As such, it should not be compared to the recipes or ingredients used in the previous range, she stressed.

Rana had invested in a patented technology which allowed it to “achieve superior results in terms of consistency, richness, and overall product quality”, the spokeswoman said.

“The quantity of some ingredients (i.e. the amount of braised beef and shrimp used in the recipes) has actually increased,” she claimed, adding that a natural concentration had occurred during the cooking process.

The result was “smoother, more generous fillings that offer exceptional texture and a distinctive taste experience,” the spokeswoman added.
