It has been designed to optimise smaller spaces and offering a broader range

Scotmid Co-op has debuted a small format concept store that aims to offer shoppers a more focused and efficient range.

The 1,600 sq ft store, which launched in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire on 30 April, features over 2,000 products, spanning grocery, food to go, Chopstix Noodle Bar, Costa Coffee and a beer cave.

It has been designed to optimise smaller spaces and offers around 20% more products compared with its other stores of a similar size.

Scotmid added that the range had been tailored to the local community and supported local suppliers.

The society said introducing the smaller-format model reflected modern shopping habits and convenience-led missions.

The opening was marked by longest-serving team member, Christine Steven, cutting the ribbon. She has worked in Uddingston for more than 33 years, reflecting the retailer’s long-standing connection to the local area, Scotmid said.

“This new concept store reflects how our customers are choosing to shop today, with a greater focus on convenience, food-to-go and a demand for a more targeted range,” said Scotmid Co-op chief operating officer Brian Boyle.

“We’ve designed the format to make the best use of space, while ensuring we continue to offer the products our customers rely on, alongside a strong mix of local suppliers.

“This store is an important step in how we continue to evolve our estate to meet changing customer needs, while staying rooted in the communities we serve.”
