Confectionery and snacking business Zetar is about to launch two new sweet brands, one flavoured with Tango - and the other with Guinness.

The company is keeping tight-lipped about its plans for Diageo’s black stuff at this stage - except to say products will include chocolates and bar snacks - but has revealed details of its tie-up with Britvic-owned Tango.

Due on shelf this month and aimed at young adults, the Tango range has been designed by Zetar’s Kinnerton confectionery arm to reflect the qualities of the soft drink, using popping candy to give products a fizzy orange taste.

The orange and choclate-filled chocolate bars and orange-centred balls are permanent lines and Zetar will also be launching a Tango Easter egg.

“We have a growing portfolio of leading licences and we recognised an opportunity with the Tango brand to fill a gap in the current market place by creating a confectionery brand for teenagers and young adults,” said Zetar group managing director Clive Beecham. “We have developed an all-year-round and Easter range to capture the full potential of the brand.”

Last week, Zetar announced it had extended its UK licences for Hello Kitty, Power Rangers and The Simpsons into the rest of Europe and that it was working on a product range for France and Belgium for this Christmas.

Sales of the Tango soft drink brand have risen 3.9% year-on-year to £28.8m [Nielsen 52 w/e 1 October 2010].
