Aldi is seeking British suppliers to enter a competition to gain a temporary listing in its 950 UK stores.

The discounter is looking for entrants in categories including dairy, bakery, free-from, frozen, confectionery and alcohol. Suppliers in other categories are also invited to enter, with six winners to be chosen in total.

The winning products will gain a one-off listing among Aldi’s Specialbuys, stocked on a ‘when it’s gone it’s gone’ basis.

Entry forms can be downloaded at aldi.co.uk/grow-with-aldi and emailed to growwithaldi@clarioncomms.co.uk.

Shortlisted suppliers will be invited to Aldi’s headquarters in Atherstone to showcase their products to a judging panel.

It follows Aldi’s announcement in January of plans to recruit more than 100 additional British suppliers.

Last year, the supermarket ran a ‘Grow With Aldi’ spirits competition, which saw Penrhos Gin, a Herefordshire-based fruit farm turned craft gin distillery, have its product stocked in stores nationwide.

“From entrepreneurial farmers with flair in the kitchen to tabletop businesses that are going from strength to strength, we can’t wait to see the best of British food and drink producers,” said Julie Ashfield, Aldi UK MD of buying.

“More than three quarters of our sales come from British suppliers, and we are constantly exploring ways in which we can further support small local businesses. That’s why we are delighted to be extending Grow With Aldi. To be able to offer a platform to showcase new food and drink products to the nation is incredibly exciting.

“We look forward to working with new suppliers and continuing in our mission to offer shoppers high-quality, fresh products at the best possible prices.”
