What was your first job? From the age of 15, I spent most school holidays as a gardener. I’m still a keen gardener now.
What’s been your worst job interview? I lived in Buenos Aires for a few years and in the early days went for a job where Spanish language was needed. It didn’t take long to realise my Spanish wasn’t very good!
What was the first music single you bought? Guns ‘N’ Roses - Live and Let Die.
How do you describe your job to your mates? I tell them I put the ‘ooooo’ in Yazoo, then spend five minutes spelling FrieslandCampina to them.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? Watching my team grow and succeed.
What is the least rewarding part? Watching my team take all the credit…
What is your motto in life? Two ears and one mouth. Use them in that proportion.
If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? To be able to do the school run every day.
Do you have any phobias? Having been attacked by three wasps’ nests, I keep away from gangs of wasps!
If you could change one thing in grocery, what would it be? I’m still not convinced the shopper is at the heart of many decisions. I feel the size of a supplier’s business still has too much leverage.
What luxury would you have on a desert island? My guitar - and a tuner.
What animal most reflects your personality? A dolphin. I enjoy ensuring that my team achieve their goals and are harmonious.
What’s your favourite film and why? City of God - an incredible fictional story based on the reality of life in favelas in Brazil.
What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? ‘Ladies’ in Spanish is mujer, or M for short. Hadn’t realised that and used what I thought was the ‘male’ public toilet once in a museum in Buenos Aires. It escalated.
Which celebrity would you most like to work with and why? Jamie Oliver. I’d teach him about Yazoo’s amazing No Added Sugar, No Artificial Sweetener recipe, then I’d sack him.
What would your death row meal be? My wife’s chicken, chorizo and bean casserole, with avocado, plantain and a bottle of rioja on the side.
