Albert Bartlett has launched packs of limited‑edition White Rooster potatoes into selected Sainsbury’s stores.
A natural variant of the brand’s best-selling Red Rooster, White Rooster (rsp: £2/1.5kg) is pitched as a white‑skinned, kitchen all‑rounder with a traditional potato taste and a light, fluffy texture.
The SKU is designed to deliver consistent results across classic uses, from roasties and creamy mash to baked potatoes, chips and wedges, and is billed as an alternative to Maris Piper.
“Red Rooster has an extremely loyal customer base, however we have always known some consumers simply won’t buy red potatoes,” said Thomas McInally, senior brand manager at Albert Bartlett. “The addition of White Rooster fits perfectly into the range between the iconic Red Rooster and the modern favourite Butter Gold.”
McInally added: “This limited‑edition run will let us hear from customers what they think of White Rooster, and we are excited to see the response.”
Stevie McLaughlin, head chef at two-Michelin-starred restaurant Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles, praised the flavour and texture, highlighting “skin‑on, golden and crispy” wedges that were “light and fluffy in the middle”.
Chef Michel Roux said the new variety “did not disappoint in both texture and taste”, adding he looks forward to using it in private and professional settings.
White Rooster joins Albert Bartlett’s wider potato portfolio, which includes Red Rooster, Butter Gold and seasonal Jersey Royal lines, underscoring the supplier’s focus on innovation, taste and sustainable British farming.
