Amazon Fresh Entry

Amazon has opened its first checkout-free Amazon Fresh store outside London.

Today Amazon opened a store in Sevenoaks, Kent, powered by its Just Walk Out technology.

To shop in the store, customers use the Amazon app to enter – Prime membership is not required – put their phone away and pick items from shelves. At the end of their shopping trip, they simply walk out, and are later sent a receipt for their purchases.

The store is the 19th Amazon Fresh store to open in the UK, the first of which opened in Ealing – the e-commerce giant’s first physical retail site outside North America – in March last year.

Store openings have continued at pace, with locations in Hoxton and Southwark launching earlier this year.

Like other Amazon Fresh stores, the Sevenoaks site offers a wide selection of branded products, as well as private food brand ‘by Amazon’ and Amazon’s premium grocery range ‘Our Selection’. Hot food items are on sale throughout the day, with on-the-go meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner available.

At the Sevenoaks site, customers can also pick up items purchased on Amazon.co.uk at the Amazon Hub in store, and return items without needing to package the product or print a shipping label.

“We’re delighted to open our new Amazon Fresh store in Sevenoaks, the first store to be located outside of London,” said Matt Birch, director of Amazon Fresh Stores.

“We’ve heard from customers that they appreciate the seamless shopping experience the Just Walk Out technology enables, as well as the wide selection of food. Customers will also find our dedicated store team ready to help as they shop,” he added.

The Sevenoaks store at 5 Blighs Court – a former Baby Gap store – opened its doors to the public at 7am today, and will be open from 7am to 11pm, seven days a week.
