John Lewis Partnership - Christmas in John Lewis

The John Lewis Partnership has today kicked off its seasonal recruitment campaign as it looks to bolster its staffing for Waitrose and John Lewis over the golden quarter trading period.

The retailer said the recruitment campaign is its biggest ever, and it is hiring for 13,700 roles. These will be split with 3,000 extra jobs in 35 John Lewis stores and 8,500 positions in 215 Waitrose stores. A further 2,200 places are being opened up across the retailer’s distribution centres and supply chain network.

“We’ve invested heavily to set ourselves up for a great golden quarter, but our excellent service also relies on having brilliant partners on hand, whenever and wherever our customers need them,” said JLP chief people officer Jo Rackham.

“Whether helping our customers find the perfect gift for a loved one, or the showstopper for their Christmas lunch, our seasonal teams play a huge role in spreading the festive magic. They’re rewarding roles, at one of the most exciting times of year to work in retail.”

The key trading quarter will see the launch of new seasonal ranges, the build-up to Black Friday in November, Christmas, and John Lewis’ January Winter Sale.

JLP said it is expecting over 30 million visitors to its shops as well as over 180 million website visits with its distribution centres dispatching more than two deliveries each second.
