JET courier walking into Co-op

Just Eat has launched a membership service, which offers customers unlimited free delivery as well as “exclusive perks” and other “freebies”.

Just Eat+ membership is available over this summer, lasting 90 days for a one-off £5.99 payment. At the end of the period, users will be prompted to renew their membership.

The free delivery deal covers all 90,000 restaurants, supermarkets and shops on the platform.

“Whether busy families need to feed a house full of hungry kids, as well as pick up extra bits from the shop, or a lively houseshare needing additional drinks for a garden get-together, and then get hungry again later in the evening – delivery cost is no longer a concern,” the aggregator app said.

Just Eat+ users can access several deals exclusive to their membership, including free everyday essentials from the Co-op on orders over £20; free snacks on orders over £15 at One Stop; free items on orders over £25 at Asda Express; a free sausage roll from Greggs on orders for £15. Membership also provides discounts at Leon, Island Poke, The Breakfast Club, and Busaba, and two-for-one offers from Patty&Bun and PizzaExpress.

Customers sign-up to Just Eat+ by adding the membership to their basket on qualifying orders at checkout.

The membership deal is “designed to make everyday ordering that bit easier and more rewarding” said Claire Pointon, UK&I managing director at Just Eat.

“Whether it’s a quick dinner for the family or a last-minute order for summer essentials, our new membership gives customers more flexibility, with greater value and access to exclusive perks, all with no delivery fees. With thousands of restaurants, supermarkets, and shops to choose from, Just Eat+ helps people get whatever they need, whenever they need it,” she added.

Deliveroo was the first to introduce a loyalty programme in the aggregator app sector in 2017. Last year it added an invitation-only subscription service to its gold and silver ‘Plus’ membership packages, that offers members priority delivery, dedicated customer care teams and access to restaurants unavailable to other users.

The aggregator app’s Plus Diamond subscription – which costs £19.99 per month – was described by Deliveroo CEO Will Shu as the “biggest innovation” in the Plus programme since its inception.

Deliveroo has stated an ambition to become a “Plus-first business” by 2026, meaning the majority of orders will come from Plus subscribers.

Rival Uber Eats offers a subscription service called Uber One which provides benefits on grocery orders, including £0 delivery fees for orders over £25 and service fee discounts on qualifying orders. It’s available as a monthly subscription for £4.99 or an annual plan for £49.99.
