Confectioners have created what they believe to be the world’s largest Cadbury Creme Egg. The workers at Cadbury World in Bournville, Birmingham, say the Easter creation stands at an impressive three feet tall. The towering treat, roughly the height of an emperor penguin, replicates the classic Creme Egg design, complete with its signature purple, gold, and red foil wrapper. Japan is beginning to see a shortage in matcha, the trendy green tea that has been promoted for its health benefits by social media influencers (Daily Mail). Soaring demand in Europe, the US and Australia has prompted warnings of further shortages this year. While consumption of leaf green tea and matcha is declining in Japan, the rest of the world can’t get enough, with the global market in matcha alone expected to surge from $2.8bn [£2.2bn] in 2023 to about $5bn by 2028 (The Guardian).

Sneaky fees that are estimated to cost consumers £2.2bn a year are to be banned from today under new consumer protection laws. Businesses, including travel websites, ticket agencies and food delivery apps, will be required to include any mandatory fees in the headline price. Research has found these fees can be more than 25% of the product price. The ban comes into force under reforms in the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumer Act 2024, passed under the previous government. The new laws also impose bans on the use or commissioning of fake reviews (The Guardian).
