Name: Sandy Tang
Job title: Co-founder
Company: Love Sum Dumplings
What was your first job? A telecom engineer.
What’s been your worst job interview? Dragons’ Den. Nothing quite prepares you for five Dragons questioning your life choices on national television.
What was the first music single you bought? My Chemical Romance – Welcome to the Black Parade. I never really had an emo phase, but that track just hits.
How do you describe your job to your friends? I sell dumplings.
“‘Bao bun’ literally means bun bun – imagine ordering a ‘bread bread sandwich’”
What is the most rewarding part of your job? Seeing someone pick up our dumplings from a supermarket shelf and thinking back to when this all started on MasterChef six years ago. It still feels a bit surreal.
What is the least rewarding part? Organising endless documents for audits.
What is your motto in life? Stay curious, stay kind, make beautiful things.
If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? Flying first class around the world tasting dumplings – purely in the name of research and development of course.
Do you have any phobias? I’m terrified of birds. I can pet a penguin, but I run from pigeons and seagulls like the plague.

If you could change one thing in grocery, what would it be? The naming of Asian foods. ‘Bao bun’ literally means bun bun – imagine ordering a ‘bread bread sandwich’.
What luxury would you have on a desert island? An ice-cold beer keg and pump.
What animal most reflects your personality? A crane, apparently. Independent but capable of deep connection — reflective, patient, and happy migrating long distances.
What’s your favourite film and why? The Nightmare Before Christmas. It was the first Tim Burton film I saw as a child and I was hooked straight away. The strangely beautiful aesthetic, the music, and the tenderness of the characters’ inner worlds stayed with me.
What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? I accidentally called 999 thinking it was Pizza Hut and tried to order a pizza. I even insisted to the policewoman that I had dialled the right number.
Even worse: my dad worked in the police and later replayed the call recording to me at home.
Which celebrity would you most like to work with and why? Anya Hindmarch. I was listening to her audiobook recently and love how she makes everyday things feel joyful and beautifully designed – something I try to do with dumplings.
What would your death row meal be? A good bowl of noodles, a few pan-fried dumplings on the side, and an ice-cold beer.
