Nolo aims to tap the dual trends of decaf and functionality.

Ready-to-drink coffee challenger Nolo has launched with what it claims is the UK’s first decaf cold brew coffee with prebiotic benefits.

Cans in Classic and Caramel Swirl have rolled out via DTC, with the brand eyeing “premium retail, grocery, and speciality listings” in 2026 (rsp: £39.99/24x250ml). Both flavours are plant-based, dairy-free, and free from added sugar or sweeteners.

The drinks are made using 100% arabica coffee beans that are “gently water-decaffeinated and slowly cold brewed for a smooth, rich, complex flavour”, according to Nolo.

A dose of 6.75g of plant-based fibre is delivered by Nolo’s proprietary prebiotic blend of Jerusalem artichoke and citrus fibre.

The blend helped “support gut health” while contributing to “Nolo’s smooth, creamy taste”, the brand added.

“We wanted a decaf that was both an upgrade in taste and a functional boost,” said Nolo founder Binky Felstead. “Nothing like that existed, so we made it.

“In a market where younger consumers are demanding convenience, functionality and great taste without sacrificing health, Nolo lands where coffee culture is headed.”

The NPD comes with demand for decaf coffee on the rise as consumers re-evaluate their attitude towards caffeine.

One in five coffee drinkers in the UK regularly chose decaf, according to Mintel data, while the market for decaf is projected to grow at a CAGR of 7.72% between 2024 and 2032, according to Inkwood Research.

Meanwhile, functional beverages such as kombucha, kefir and matcha are becoming staples for younger shoppers eschewing alcohol and sugary soft drinks.

In June, Ocado reported its functional drinks sales had climbed 54% in the space of a year [52 w/e 23 April 2025].
