Bio&Me has added a duo of snack bars aimed at boosting shoppers’ daily fibre and protein content.
Daily Boost Fibre & Protein has debuted in Blueberry and Cocoa, both of which are HFSS compliant, providing 6.3g sugar and 5.2g sugar respectively.
Each 40g bar provides 9g protein and contains 10 diverse plant-based ingredients, from wholegrain oats to dates, pumpkin seeds and carrots.
They are also gluten-free, with no artificial ingredients, sweeteners or palm fat.
Singles (rsp: £1.40/40g) and multipacks (rsp: £3.35/3x40g) will hit Tesco on 13 October, with multipacks rolling into Waitrose and Holland & Barrett on 23 October and 20 November respectively.
The bars were intended to offer “a less male-orientated” alternative to protein bars in the market, appealing to Bio&Me’s “typical” female shopper, aged 35-45, it said.
They had been developed in response to consumer demand, “but also by requests from retailers for a Bio&Me take on protein bars”, said Bio&Me CEO Jon Walsh.
Walsh’s co-founder Dr Megan Rossi said: “So many protein bars on the market are laden with added sugars or non-sugar sweeteners like sucralose and stevia, which the World Health Organization now cautions against.”
“We’ve worked hard on development to elevate the health standard of protein bars.
“These new bars not only deliver on protein, but also the too often forgotten about, yet equally important nutrient, fibre, sourced from a diverse range of plant ingredients.”
