Meat and fish supplier King Foods has ceased trading after succumbing to challenging conditions in the hospitality sector.
Advisory firm Interpath was appointed as administrator to Foodstore Ltd, which traded as King Foods, on 5 March 2026.
Based in Aberdeen, King Foods supplied frozen foods, fresh fish products, dry goods, and fresh and frozen meat to hotel and retail catering outlets, primarily across the north east of Scotland.
The company had experienced adverse trading for several years, with increased competition and cost price inflation, exacerbated by the well-documented challenges faced by the hospitality and catering industry.
Despite efforts to find a solution, the directors were forced to cease trading in mid-February amid ongoing losses and cashflow pressure.
With no prospect of trade resuming, the joint administrators made the ccompany’s 41 members of staff redundant.
“Significant headwinds continue to impact companies operating up and down the food and drink supply chain, including rising costs, which place pressure on margins,” said Geoff Jacobs, joint administrator and managing director at Interpath.
“This is resulting in many business owners seeking support and assessing options, which we would encourage them to do proactively.”
Interpath will start the process of marketing the company’s business and assets, including its fitted cold storage facility in Aberdeen, its vehicle fleet and other properties.
Alistair McAlinden, joint administrator and head of Interpath in Scotland, added: “As a priority, we will be extending support to King Foods’ employees who have sadly been impacted by redundancy.”
