Pepsi is splashing the cash on a global ‘For the Love of It’ push – and has turned to the Marvel cinematic universe for inspiration.

Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd and Michael Peña feature as a couple of astronauts preparing for blast-off. It’s tense – particularly when they realise they’ve forgotten to pack the Pepsi Max. Cue some top-notch goofing around as Rudd yanks on the handbrake and makes for a nearby vending machine. His repeated pratfalls and clumsy quest for loose change contrast wickedly with the tropes of a clichéd space film.

This balance of the epic and the comic is what Marvel fans would expect from the ad’s director, Taika Waititi – who also made Thor: Ragnarok – and he delivers a gem. Pepsi has got what it paid for.
