Functional drinks brand Skip has expanded its portfolio with a duo of flavours infused with lion’s mane.
Cans in Blood Orange and Cloudy Apple have rolled out exclusively in Home Bargains stores at an introductory price of 99p.
Each 250ml can delivered 2,000mg of organic lion’s mane extract, Skip said. They are also fortified with B6 and B12 vitamins and contain no added sugar.
Despite their “very affordable price”, the new drinks contained lion’s mane at a level “eight to 20 times higher than competitor brands”, claimed Skip co-founder Adam Pritchard.
“I believe our drinks are on a different level to any other functional soft drinks brand in the UK,” Pritchard said. “What sets us apart is our depth of experience in the field of functional ingredients, including functional mushrooms, and that we have worked on our products with the backing of research from the University of Oxford.
“We understand what the rules are regarding functional ingredients and how to use them at a level that is both compliant and has an impact.”
Launched in August 2024, Skip positioned itself as the first CBD beverage fully compliant with category regulations.
The brand’s CBD range – available in flavours including Peach & Ginger, Elderflower & Mint, and Lemon & Basil – uses cold-pressed CBD extracted from hemp oil.
CBD from hemp oil is considered non-novel by The Food Standards Agency, meaning it does not require novel food licensing for sale.
Skip is not the only CBD brand to diversify into broader functional soft drinks recent years. Category leader Trip added its Mindful Blend range – made with lion’s mane and magnesium – in April 2024.
Goodrays followed with its first non‑CBD beverage Re:focus last October.
