Each 250g meal is high in protein and contains at least 80g of fruit and veg

Asda has jumped on the GLP-1 bandwagon, adding a quartet of calorie-controlled, high-protein ready meals.

Creamy Chicken Korma, Thai Green Chicken Curry, Chicken Chow Mein and Chicken & Mediterranean Style Vegetable Pasta “power pots” have hit shelves, each with an rsp of £2.50 for 250g.

Each provided at least one of the recommended 5 a day, with at least 80g of fruit and veg in each meal.

They would appeal to consumers “who want to focus on health without doing all the prep in 2026”, as well as “those with reduced appetites”, said Asda.

According to Asda, sales of its own-label healthy ready meals are up 54% year on year, pointing to shoppers “more frequently turning to healthier, portion-controlled options” beyond January.

Asda joins the likes of Morrisons, M&S and Co-op, all of which have unveiled portion-controlled ready meals targeted at users of GLP-1 weight-loss jabs in recent weeks.

Morrisons announced its partnership with Applied Nutrition in December, teasing the launch of 53 co-branded products, spanning fresh, frozen and ambient categories, in the new year.

Live now, the innovation spree includes a seven-strong range of ‘GLP-1 friendly’ ready meals, which sit under the retailer’s new ‘Small & Balanced’ banner.

M&S then unveiled its ‘Nutrient Dense’ range, designed in consultation with the British Nutrition Foundation.

The 20-strong range of salads, snacks and meals, each containing at least one of 10 micronutrients such as vitamin D, iron, folate and vitamin B12, was said to be suited to users of weight-loss medication.

Co-op last week unveiled four “mini meals” under its Good Fuel offer. Including the likes of Butternut Squash, Beans & Grains and Chicken & Sweet Potato Penang Curry, the range was specially developed for shoppers with smaller appetites, it said.
