I am all for looking at all solutions; and it is clear we do need to do something major. However alongside the manufacturers action the consumer also needs to be accountable - all of the plastics in the ocean and general environment have got there by improper disposal; if plastics were disposed of properly they would be in landfill (still take ages to disappear but they are concentrated and less harmful to wildlife). There should be major fines for littering - just stand outside a fast food drive in and look at the people who just throw the packaging out the window of their car when they have finished!
