Pork processor Tulip has handed a £50m distribution contract to logistics provider Gist.

The five-year deal will see Gist transport both raw pork products to Tulip’s factories and finished pork products from the processor’s sites to wholesale and retailer customers.

Tulip logistics director Andy Hopkins said the company could be confident its strict temperature controls were in place at all times as Gist was a specialist in the chill supply chain.

“Gist’s innovative approach to our transport operations demonstrated clearly that they were able to provide us with the value and service we require,” he said.

Gist's operations will focus primarily on the Midlands and East Anglia. Around 60 workers and 20 vehicles will transfer to Gist as part of the tie-up.

Other customers of Gist include Marks & Spencer, Carlsberg UK and the Dutch Flower Group.
