Despite widespread media reports this week suggesting a rift between the two, the NFU has spoken out in support of Tesco as the multiple announced record profits. NFU head of marketing Helen Lo told The Grocer: "We recognise Tesco as the number one supermarket. It's a well run and sophisticated operation. But clearly some of our hard pressed members will find this hard to understand." However, while seeking to set the record straight, Lo urged farmers to increase collaboration with the multiple to take advantage of its scale and vast buying power. Lo said: "Farmers will find our message very hard to understand, but there is no getting away from the fact they will get better returns if they work in partnership with Tesco." {{NEWS }}
