Hull region-based Andrew Marr International has acquired Murray Vernon Holdings’ controlling interest in the Fastnet Fish Group based in Grimsby.
The deal creates one of the largest seafood businesses in the UK, and represents the ongoing consolidation of the front end of the wholesale supply chain in the region.
“The supply chain is getting its act together, and the middle men are being whittled out,” said a spokesman for Hull’s electronic auction Fishgate. “Fish is a valuable commodity that is increasingly in short supply, and we are now seeing a shift to the premium end.”
AMI already has extensive worldwide fish trading interests through its subsidiaries - J Marr (Seafoods), Almarr Seafoods and Marr Continental.
Fastnet’s core business includes the sale and distribution of white fish fillets and important interests in the top end of the shrimp and langoustine trade.
Fastnet will continue to be run as an independent company within the AMI Group.
