Diageo has rejected an alternative restructuring plan drafted by the Scottish government to save 900 jobs threatened by Diageo's own proposals.

The Taskforce plan was not viable and would make the business inefficient, Diageo said, adding that it offered no alternative to the company's plans to close two sites, including the Johnnie Walker plant in Kilmarnock.

"We need a sustainable Scottish operation that provides a future for the 4,000 people we would employ in Scotland after this restructuring is completed," said global supply MD David Gosnell.
