Oakland International is set to cash in on annual savings of £30,000 after switching to solar energy.

The Redditch-based logistics operator said it had installed more than 1,000 solar panels at its site, which it claims will slash its CO2 output by 20,000kg.

“By embracing new technologies and challenging conventional use of lighting, heating and chilled refrigeration across our warehouses, we are benefiting greatly from considerable energy and CO2 savings,” said MD Dean Atwell.

The company added it had reduced the volume of waste sent to landfill by 90% over the past five years and was exploring the possibility of an on-site biomass food digester to convert food waste into mineral-rich fertiliser.
