Hula Hoops Original

The 50g bag of Hula Hoops Original has risen from 85p to 90p in Tesco

KP Snacks this week saw the prices of some of its best-known brands rise in the mults – as the supplier said “inflationary pressures” had caused it to pass on rising costs.

Shelf prices of smaller formats of Hula Hoops, Butterkist and McCoy’s went up in Tesco and Sainsbury’s. Changes included Sainsbury’s increasing Hula Hoops Original and BBQ Beef (50g) from 85p to 90p and five Butterkist lines from £1.60 to £1.70. In Tesco, McCoy’s Cheddar & Onion (47.5g) was among eight KP SKUs to become 5p more expensive at 85p.

The changes included Sainsbury’s increasing Hula Hoops Original and BBQ Beef variants (50g) from 85p to 90p and five Butterkist lines such as Crunchy Toffee (170g) from £1.60 to £1.70. In Tesco, McCoy’s Cheddar & Onion (47.5g) was among eight KP SKUs to become 5p more expensive at 85p.

KP’s branded sales director Andy Riddle insisted shelf prices were “at the sole discretion of our retail partners” but admitted that “along with other manufacturers of food and other consumer goods, KP Snacks continues to experience inflationary pressures”.

The supplier worked “extremely hard to mitigate the impact by absorbing it into our business” he added, but sometimes found it necessary “to pass some of the cost on for our business to remain viable and competitive, and to drive sustainable category growth plans”.
