NFRN blasts extra carriage charge by EM News

Northern Ireland row over £15 charge for Sun/Times

The National Federation of Retail Newsagents has blasted EM News’ plans to introduce a new, additional carriage charge on retailers in the autumn.

EM News, which won a contract to distribute News UK titles in Northern Ireland, has proposed charging an extra £15 a week for delivering the Sun, Times and Sunday Times. NFRN claims the charge will be imposed on all retailers, whether or not they receive News UK titles from EM News.

However, an EM News spokesman insisted: “The addition of the News UK titles to our portfolio has had a significant impact on the volumes we distribute. For the majority of customers the new arrangement is more cost-effective.”
